Challenges:

As an on-site supervisor with a construction team, I have witnessed as well as experienced my fair share of occupational hazards, including falling from heights, being struck by objects, touching hot surfaces, and handling sharp objects, to name a few. While a few are fatal, it is the injuries that put a grind to smooth and efficient working that is essential in construction work.

Solution

A few years back I was doing a project in Zhuhai, where I noticed more than 20 workers using cut-resistant gloves made with Kevlar®. That time, instantly, I was quite impressed with DuPont PPE products for their reliable protection in unfavorable conditions.

Usually, the choice of PPE to be used in a project depend on factors, such as the project budget and the project manager. After experiencing the reliability of gloves made with Kevlar® myself, I stopped expecting the project manager to provide me with the safest gloves possible and started buying my own. Now, I regularly buy gloves made with Kevlar® for myself, and my construction team when it is necessary.

When I got gloves made with Kevlar® for the first time, I cut them directly with a blade to test their cut-resistant performance. None of us dared to try something like this when we used to wear ordinary yarn gloves before. My colleague used to wear a kind of gloves with a steel wire inside, but the outer wire would still not be cut-proof, and the sharp angle of the steel wire would come out after cutting two or more times.

So you see, our team has been using gloves made with Kevlar® for four or five years now after testing them under tough conditions ourselves.

I find the breathability of gloves made with Kevlar® to be quite good. Since it is relatively thin, it is very comfortable. Similarly, these gloves are very durable and can be used for 2-3 months easily! While other ordinary gloves are of poor quality and need to be replaced in 2-3 days.

I also recommend wearing the extended version, (or the sleeve) which can provide more comprehensive protection for the wrist.

Gloves made with Kevlar® amaze me. They can provide superior protection to our hands when faced with sharp cuts and burns on site.
